Southern Africa Editors Forum (SAEF)
SAEF is an association of southern Africa's most senior print, magazine, broadcast and other electronic media editors and media educators aiming to defend and promote media freedom and independence.
HIV-related mission
The editors have identified the impact of the HIV epidemic as a major factor that tears at the fabric of the societies in the region and poses a threat for the skills level in media companies.
Key areas of HIV-related activities
The Media Action Plan (MAP) focuses on areas such as
- Increasing and improving the coverage of HIV-related reporting
- Workplace programmes in media companies
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Research and data compilation
The MAP has rsulted amongst others in the following products:
- Gender baseline study
- SAfAIDS Media Helpdesk
- Training of journalists
- Ethical guidelines for reporting on HIV
RST-SAEF cooperation
In regular meetings the RST informs and discusses with the editors newest developments in HIV-related areas and provides technical advice for their HIV-related activity.
Geographic coverage
SAEF is an affiliate of The African Editors’ Forum (TAEF) covering southern Africa.
