SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF)
The SADC Parliamentary Forum seeks to bring regional experiences to bear at the national level, to promote best practices in the role of parliaments in regional cooperation and integration as outlined in the SADC Treaty and the Forum Constitution. Its main aim is to provide a platform for parliaments and parliamentarians to promote and improve regional integration in the SADC region, through parliamentary involvement.
Vision
A delivery-focused, people-cantered institution that accelerates and promotes parliamentary participation in regional decision making for the benefi t of the citizens of SADC.
Mission
To facilitate strategic partnerships within the SADC region, promote information sharing, initiate and implement projects that enhance regional integration and promote effective and professional parliamentary practice.
Key areas of HIV-related activities
The SADC PF HIV and AIDS programme is informed by the 6 regional SADC HIV and AIDS strategic focus areas. These are:
- Policy development and harmonization of HIV and AIDS in the SADC region.
- Capacity building and HIV and AIDS mainstreaming.
- SADC Secretariat HIV and AIDS Workplace Programme.
- Scaling up cross-border initiatives.
- Facilitation of technical response, resource networks, collaboration and coordination.
- Monitoring and evaluation of global and regional commitments.
- SADC PF CORE BUSINESS.
In the exercise of its mandate, the SADC PF has a number of priority areas. These include regional integration, democracy and governance, gender equality, HIV and AIDS, capacity building and inter-parliamentary cooperation and human rights. The SADC PF believes that there is a correlation between each of these priority areas. As such, the SADC PF HIV and AIDS business Plan , will endeavor to mainstream HIV and AIDS into all of the above priority areas.
